Five things you have to
consider when studying Public Relations
HI there, yes you. so I
had that you want to continue with Public Relation’s, ooh and trust me you made
the right choice not only because PR is wonderful but PR can serve as an agent of
change in many ways in our beautiful country ( South Africa).
But I’m pretty sure that you have to consider some kind of tips or magic
formulae while studying PR, because, I tell you this industry is not as easy as
it may seem, but if you get this right, the YING-YANG of being a PR shall be
glowed nicely on you together with its blessings.
The Five tips
or formulae to consider
Number one, The use and misuse of your social media ``weapon-tool``,
basically lovely person, what do you do with it, do you use it for good, bad or
even evil purposes or Are you like a person from the 60s` who don’t care about
it, just remember what you post, state or comment to as a PRP student you must
be very careful because your posts might cause you any potential job in future,
shame.
Number two, Are you a 24/7
meaning are you talkative, like me, guys and girls listen this industry is not
for silent –shy individuals if you want to be heard get out of your comfort
zone and learn how to talk to a crowd with confidence
Number three Time-management and organizations skills are
essential no more doing last minute 5- minute jobs now ,young professionals
this is the time ,yes time to get the right things done because as DR Mike
Murdock said ``I’m done with getting the right things done``
Are you a writer of poem, stories, articles etc. well let me tell you,
do Love writing too much and so much because this will be your selling point in
your world as a PRP, you will be focusing on this wonderful skill, from e-mails
to catalogues to newsletters .What I can say is that hone this skill now before
graduating because your very life to put bread on the lunch box depends on it.

My last one is … understand the whole bigger picture. It’s easy to
understand the theory but as our Communication Lecture here in UJ always
pointed out that as a students we always need to understand that every
chapter(model-chapter) in real life is
connected, you just only need to Connect the dots
Well young professionals we came to an end of our wonderful talk thank you for reading do tell what you
loved do tell were I can improve my words, thank you.
Very well thought though and informative to help student who are thinking of taking up public relations as a study
ReplyDeleteThank you, very much, you see the inspiration comes from loving PR so much and with love comes expression and so I really think that PR on its own must get publicity enough so that other students can experience this wonderful Course for themselves, Thank you please comment on my next blog
ReplyDeleteI must say I agree with you especially your 2nd tip as a PR student and as a future PRP, you must not be shy. It important to learn while you still a student to have your own personal opinions and respect others as well. Also you must "listen" to what is happening in the wold around you! So that you can be part of a conversation as well.
ReplyDeleteI love it when you bring the listening point to the discussion because that's the missing ingredient in our life and the way we approach work therefore if you master the skill of listening then therefore you will go places
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you Valentine because time management and organizational skills are very crucial when studying PR. Imagine being the PRP of a certain company and not being organized at all, you will certainly be putting your organization at risk in terms of perception
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Fiona, And to to add on what you just said, PR is about Brand which that term includes you yourself, and so remember in order to sell yourself and to not be disorganzed you need to respect time
DeleteI agree with you Valentine especially on your second tip and I find your post to be helpful and I think it will assist a lot of aspiring PR students to decide whether or not PR is the career path they should follow.
ReplyDeleteThank you Preston, You know it is not nice to see students dropping out every year and when you trace back it turns out that those students only applied because they loved the name or just to secure a space, so this post wants to inform matrics students to really know what they are getting themselfs in to , in order for them to asses themselfs
DeleteI agree with you on those handy tips but whoo I do not think one can manage to talk for 24/7 but thanks dear.
ReplyDeleteNo dear, the 24/7 term that i used was not to mean it literally but to just say figuratively yo stess the importance of being bublee in he industry and also being a peoples person which will help you with your network connections and thank you for your comment I would love you to comment more in the future

Deletehmm I like your post. well I agree with you confidence is needed in this industry as for the talk active part hmm I will say yes but we must talk sense not something that will offend other peoples.
ReplyDeleteTrue, which brings to the important issue, BRANDING ,you see sometimes is not that you say something is what you say that can make a difference between shame and dignity, so ,thereof, one must think first before they talk especially in PR were branding is at most crucial
